A Challenge to Paint

Published by at 8:24 pm under Card Designs,Challenges,Stampin' Up!

When I saw that Julia’s Ways to Use it Challenge on SCS this past week was to use paint on a card, I thought “I can do that!”  I have loads of acrylic paint just stashed away from when I was doing the One-Stroke painting thing.  So I grabbed a bottle of my favorite color – Linen, and started putting all the elements together.  The warm white of the Linen helped me decide to use cocoa as a color and my favorite complimentary color to use with cocoa is a pale aqua.

I had also just purchased a new package of transparencies at my local office supply store, so that became another element – the card front, in fact.  To coordinate with the transparency I decided I would paint a Heidi Swapp ghost flower shape.  I painted one side – two coats – and flipped it over so that the glossy side of the flower would be showing. I swiped the edges of the petals with the creamy brown chalk ink.

I’ve been using a lot of circle shapes lately, so in keeping with the flow of that trend I decided to use a partial circle for the inside aqua piece.  The cocoa patterned paper is actually the back of the card. It is sized at the normal 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  The aqua piece is scored and folded on the left side and is attached to the back of the cocoa piece.  The acetate is the front of the card and is 4 1/4 x 7 1/2.  It was scored at 5 1/2 and folded around and attached to the cocoa piece.

The white circle was stamped with the Dotted Line jumbo wheel in Close to Cocoa and attached to the aqua piece.  The white rub-on was added onto the acetate, then the chocolate  circle was attached to the front of the acetate and the flower attached to that.  The flower center is a large decorative pearl from Ellen Hutson’s store, as are the 5 tiny coordinating pearls that are on the acetate just outside the aqua circle’s edge.  The sentiment on the cocoa layer is a clear sticker and says “You are so beautiful to me.” (Love that song by Joe Cocker!)

I tied the ribbon around the card and stuck the decorative pin through the knot.
