Blushing Bird – from Beate’s sketch WSC30

Published by at 9:09 pm under Card Designs,Challenges

I’ve always meant to try one of Beate’s weekend sketches and have never seemed to find the time.  This weekend I made the time to make a card using her sketch WSC30.

This was really a cool sketch and the first thing that came to my mind was a bird on branches.  I searched through my stamps (after a major clean-up of the stamp room Saturday morning) to find my Feather Flourish clear stamp set from Stampendous, which I got at eclectic paperie.  I love the versatility this set offers, with the many choices of wings, legs and tails for the birds.

I matted the flowered pattern paper (BG Adore) on chocolate chip then attached it to the cool caribbean card base.  The left pink vertical panel (BG Sweetie) was mounted on chocolate chip and attached.  To create the “branches”, I cut a thin long strip of chocolate chip.  With my 1 1/4” square punch upside down, I threaded one end of the chocolate chip strip through the punch until it was about halfway through, leaving half of the strip above the punch and half of it under the punch.  I lined up the center of the width of the strip with one of the punch corners and punched, then attached these to the card.

I stamped the bird’s body on blue (BG Charmed) and his wing on pink (BG Sweetie) and cut them both out.  I punched a scalloped circle from red (BG Romance), attached it to the card and determined where I would place the bird.  Holding him in place (you could use a temporary adhesive); I stamped his tail then colored in a branch with my chocolate chip marker.  After removing the bird I stamped his feet.  Then I mounted the bird and his wing using dimensionals on both.

I punched the blue (BG Charmed) with the photo corner punch, matted it on chocolate chip cardstock and attached it to the bottom right corner of the card.  The sentiment from My Favorite Things set Essential Sentiments was stamped on the bottom of the pink panel even though Beate’s sketch called for it to be on the main card panel.  It just wouldn’t have shown up on my patterned paper.

I dotted the bird’s eye with Black Diamond Stickles and then dotted the corner strip the ends of the brown strips and the bird’s wing with Aqua Stickles.

Thanks for visiting!  Please come back soon!
